A blessed day by Madeline Naranjo

A blessed day

This piece is one of my “people pots” also known as a story pot. The day depicted on the pot was an actual day, it was the day of our buffalo deer dance. On that morning the deer are called down from the hills and they join the buffalo and buffalo ladies as they make their way into the Pueblo to dance. On this particular morning, the sun was rising to the east while the moon was setting on the western horizon. All while the dancers began to enter the Pueblo, it was a “magical” feeling. On the piece you will see a male buffalo dancer, followed by a lady buffalo dancer. Who is filled by a deer dancer, in between those you will see spectators wrapped up in their blankets as well as children.
